Epcot’s Flower And Garden Festival

Epcot’s Flower and Garden Festival is an annual event at Walt Disney World. This Disney Festival is typically from early March through late May. The International Flower and Garden Festival started back in 1994, however, 2015 was the year that many changes took place.

Many new topiaries, butterfly gardens, and Garden Rocks Concert series were added to the Epcot festival. As these additions were made to the flower and garden festival, more dates were added each year.

Lotus House

The stand to sample Chinese food at Epcot’s flower and garden festival is the Lotus House. Do not confuse it with the quick service counter, Lotus Cafe. That too is located in the China Pavilion.

The Lotus House In 2015 is where you can find Beijing-Style Candied Strawberries. These candy strawberries were very popular. Sadly this strawberry snack has not been seen at Epcot’s International Flower And Garden Festival in a few years.

The Beijing Strawberries were just as popular as Frushi. The two Asian food samplings really gave the Disney crowd’s taste buds pure enjoyment!

Ingredients

  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 2 tablespoons corn syrup
  • 2 tablespoons balsamic vinegar
  • 12 strawberries
  • sesame seeds (optional)

Instructions

  1. Wash and dry strawberries. Set aside until ready for dipping.
  2. Add sugar, water, corn syrup, and balsamic vinegar into a large saucepan over medium-high heat.
  3. Stir until the sugar has dissolved.
  4. Continue to cook over medium or medium high heat without stirring until a candy thermometer reads 300 degrees and the liquid is an amber color and reduced by slightly more than half, about 20 minutes (watch for boil overs!).
  5. Remove from heat and allow bubbles and foam to reduce, showing the liquid, about 2 minutes.
  6. If desired, add sesame seeds.
  7. Working quickly, dip strawberries in the sugar mixture, allowing excess to run off the tip of the strawberry.
  8. Turn strawberry several times to ensure even coating and distribution of candy shell.
  9. Place on wax paper or lightly greased aluminum foil.
  10. Place strawberries in a freezer for 15 minutes so that the coating sets, then transfer to a covered container in the fridge for storage.
  11. Serve directly from the fridge to prevent sweating and ensure the coating stays crunchy.
