Over by Epcot, you find Disney’s Boardwalk Resort. The Boardwalk Resort was designed to resemble the turn of the century Jersey Shore. You find the typical boardwalk eats, a dance hall, even a cocktail as you stroll along Disney’s boardwalk. 

One place that stands out at the Disney Boardwalk Resort is the Boardwalk Bakery. If you need to use up Disney snack credits, the Boardwalk Bakery is a great place to do that in. 

The Boardwalk Bakery has the typical brownies, cookies, and muffins. The bakery also has a few sandwiches as well that you can enjoy.

Disney pretzels

Disney is known for its pretzels across the entire Walt Disney World Resort. You can find the famous huge Disney pretzels in Epcot, to the Mickey-shaped pretzels at snack stands throughout the parks. It isn’t a Disney vacation without trying one of the Disney pretzels.

Chocolate pretzels

One of the unique Disney pretzels you could find was at Disney’s Boardwalk Bakery. These chocolate pretzels are unique where it is chocolate dough pretzels, not chocolate pretzels that have been dipped in chocolate.

Sadly, like most Disney foods, Disney discontinued making the chocolate pretzels at the Boardwalk Bakery. Disney does this so they can bring out new Disney foods we can enjoy.

I was lucky enough to get this Disney recipe before they stopped making these Disney pretzels. With this Disney recipe, you can remember your Disney vacation at home.

Chocolate Pretzels {Boardwalk Bakery}

Chocolate Pretzels {Boardwalk Bakery}

Prep Time: 1 hour
Cook Time: 15 minutes
Total Time: 1 hour 15 minutes

Chocolate pretzels are a yummy Disney snack found at Disney Boardwalk Resort. This Disney pretzel is perfect to enjoy on your Disney vacation.

Ingredients

  • 2 8-inch-by-inch sheets of puff pastry dough
  • 2 cups butter
  • 2 1/2 cups powdered sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 4 eggs
  • 5 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 3/4 tablespoon baking powder
  • 2/3 cup cocoa powder
  • Granulated sugar to taste (coarse is best)
  • Extra powdered sugar to taste

Instructions

  1. Sift flour, baking powder, and cocoa powder together. Set aside.
  2. In a mixer, cream the butter, sugar, and salt, then mix in vanilla.
  3. Slowly mix in eggs, one at a time.
  4. Scrape down sides of the bowl and fold in flour dry ingredients from step 1.

  1. Lay puff pastry sheets out flat. (Sheets should be very cold.)
  2. Spread chocolate sugar dough onto one sheet of puff pastry, covering completely; then roll to 3/4-inch thickness with a rolling pin.
  3. Place the second sheet of puff pastry on top, and trim edges to keep neat.
  4. Place this dough "sandwich" on a sheet pan and refrigerate for 30 min.
  5. After chilling, cut dough into 3/4-inch strips.
  6. Roll strips by hand and twist to form candy-cand-like appearance.
  7. Form into pretzel shapes.
  8. Place pretzels on a baking sheet and sprinkle with coarse granulated sugar.
  9. Bake in 350-degree oven for 12-15 minutes.
  10. Once out of the oven and cooled, dust with powdered sugar.
